Mantova- Home of the Art Obsessed Gonzagas- A paradise for Artists
Mantova is an amazing city, we visited it for the third time yesterday, this time exploring the Castello San Giorgio. Although it is not as impressive as either the Palazzo Te or the Palazzo Ducale it had a traveling exhibition beginning with Jules Verne's 'Round the World in 80 Days' and continuing the world tour through a phenomenal collection of pre-raphealite paintings by Austrian painter Hubert Sattler. He travelled extensively between 1850 and 1900 painting cities from North America, through Europe, and as far as the Middle East and North Africa. More information about him is available here (https://www.tuttartpitturasculturapoesiamusica.com/2015/06/Hubert-Sattler.html). His pictures are incredibly detailed and very pleasing to look at. Many are almost map like.
Not having the time on vacation to take on a project like his travel paintings I decided to tackle a smaller subject but one I especially enjoy so much here in Italy- food. Here is a small vignette based on a photo taken near the castello, a small bakery with a rickshaw type bread delivery truck. the three wheeled moped rickshaws are commonly used for everything from delivery to advertising to clean up in all of the Italian cities I have visited. They are often painted vibrant colors and some are further painted with seafood, flowers, or other decorations representing the establishments that use them.
Do you keep a travel journal? If so is it written, visual, photographic? Let me know in the comments.

Thanks for that description. I like the painting. You should be able to add the link you copied by turning the word "here" into a link. There should be a way to open up little thing that lets you do that.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I will try to do that.
