First indoor urban sketching event this autumn
The last time A few sketchers met to do a bit of urban sketching over a glass of sturm the air had distinctly taken on an icy edge. Not cold per say but sharp. Fingers were stiff by the time we finished our drinks and headed inside to wrap hands around warm cups of tea. On that evening the decision was made, this would be the last outdoor sketching meet-up of 2019. The weather was unfortunately just too unpleasant. Thus, on this warm afternoon, while all the world was soaking up the last of the last of the Autumn sun, we met around a big table inside a cosy cafe. A cafe situated in the showroom of a bicycle repair and backpack workshop.
On one wall bicycle saddles, gears, tires, and other accessories hung in sectioned off squares creating a pleasing mosaic of parts. Many people drew the whole wall, some tackled individual bicycles, and I with infinite slowness drew a small square of gears.
It turned out to be quite a fun and surprisingly challenging subject to draw. The results were really nice though- So many people came up with highly detailed sketches.
And the end results were colourful and diverse. Workshops seem to provide endless inspiration. I am looking forward with slight trepidation to the task of finding continuously new indoor locations to sketch. Hopefully the next one will be as fun.
