Urban sketching in Volksgarten park- Cooperation with Annenviertel
The age old trade off, to live centrally, sacrificing a large garden and space for the benefits of being centrally located, or commute, enjoying nature but investing more time in logistics. For many people the joys of being centrally located outweigh the lack of gardens and larger spaces, yet they still want to enjoy some of the benefits that are associated with them, flowers, grass, laying in the sun with a good book, eating and playing outdoors. Last Tuesday We had the priveledge of partenering with the Annengruen- Annenviertel, A neighborhood based project whose goal is to bring life to the Annen district of Graz by hosting workshops, actvities, and events, in the context of an initiative to create an enjoyment of the local green areas for gardenless locals.
Almost a year ago, two other women and I got together to form our local branch of Urban Sketchers internations, Urban Sketchers Graz. We were all part of the urban sketchers facebook group and longed to meet other enthusiastic sketchers in our own region. Although we are still a small group we have been officially meeting monthly since the weather first allowed us, as well as spontaneously in between and before that. Over the past few months we have acquired a few more fellow sketchers and have enjoyed bonding over the little hidden corners of our city with new acquaintances and old friends.
This month's sketching tour, in keeing with the Urban Jungle theme, took place in the volksgarten park. I really enjoyed sketching the skateboarders although they were pretty fast.
As it rained virtually all of the five days leading up to our meet up we had a cafe in mind as a back up in case the weather didn't cooperate. It cleared up right before we began and held nicely until evening.
