First Urban Sketching meet up of 2021
Last Thursday afternoon, after a week of rain and a blustery morning, the sun came out in all its glory to grace our first urban sketching meetup of the year. Spontaneously scheduled, this was the first in person sketching event since the beginning of September. An amazingly long period of time respectively although it didn't feel as long due to the general slowing down of life that has been our plight this last year and a half.
As I had just taught a zoom course on adding water to sketches (rivers, lakes, etc- not watercolour), I thought a water related theme might be nice. We met along the Mur river, which runs through town and, sitting just above the roar of white water, sketched in the sun. It was such a nice companionable activity after so many months of doing things individually.
We were a small group of four people.
It turned out to be a lovely relaxing moment in the sun. A hiatus from the rain which has returned en force to drive us all back indoors. All sketching that occurs in my sketchbook at the moment is done near the fire. It is that kind of May.
Our next urban sketching meet up will be in early June and is announced on our urban sketchers Graz social media sites. I am looking forward to it.
