Final Preperations for tomorrows Vernissage

This past week has been a whirlwind of activities punctuated by vernissage related tasks, framing pictures, finishing pictures, scanning pictures, looking at print mock ups. Today we put the finishing touches on the exhibition itself, except for framing that last picture which still needs a Passepartout and picking up the prints from the print shop.

Sitting with a glass of prosecco and the smell of the vanilla apple cake wafting in from the kitchen, I am listening to the final score of the French film, 'Le Jeu', that I just watched, and downloading the pictures from my camera card. I decided to share these sneak peek preview pictures with you to give you a little taste of the exhibition we have been preparing.

The exhibition is a glimpse into my fellow Exhibitor, Jana Grabner , and my journey from Botanical Illustration to Natural History Illustration. Plainly stated it is our journey from drawing plants to drawing more complex animals as well. These differ from our other work in how time-consuming they are. The time goes into accurately portraying specific characteristics of the plant/animal we are drawing, working out the differences in fur, feathers, and other surface structures, and trying to give our drawings personality and, for lack of a better term, soul via their features, eyes, and positions.

Although the pieces are very detailed there are not a ton of them. We decided to supplement them with a workstation set up showing some of the tools we work with as well as specimen that inspire us.

The Vernissage takes place tomorrow at 18:00. We would love to see you! If you live too far away to drop by you can look at the pictures that I will be posting sometime in the next week or so.
